I have found the teaching profession fascinating, it is a dynamic entity that ebbs and flows as the curriculum changes and it continually grabs my interest. I can honestly say I am genuinely enthusiastic and motivated about my profession. I love teaching and work hard to ensure the young people I guide benefit and develop a life-long love of learning. My teaching philosophy treats all pupils as individuals, they are unique, irrespective of age or ability, and it is my duty to provide them with an educational experience that stimulates their minds and allows them to reach their own personal goals and achievements. Above all, to allow them to be who they want to be, to be curious and inquisitive and work independently to seek knowledge. During Covid and school closures we maintained teaching on-line using Microsoft Teams. This involved a completely different type of teaching and a re think in my pedagogy. I found the whole experience enlightening and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of teaching interesting and inspiring lessons remotely.I have taught in many educational environments and it is obvious to me that for teachers to grow and develop along with the pupils they teach there must be an equally varied and skilful leadership team, who embody lifelong learning and can willing demonstrate this in the classroom. Matthew Syed states that: “World-class performance comes by striving for a target just out of reach, but with a vivid awareness of how the gap might be breached. Over time, through constant repetition and deep concentration, the gap will disappear, only for a new target to be created, just out of reach once again.” So, Failure is rich in learning opportunities for a simple reason: in many of its guises, it represents a violation of expectation. It is showing us that the world is in some sense different from the way we imagined it to be. (Seyd Black box thinking) This has been my mantra in leading any department. My experiences to date have given me clarity, a clear direction, and the confidence to be honest when communicating with others. I have proven management skills, with experience in dealing with change, managing and organising staff, keeping within a budget and most importantly, focussing on student welfare and their academic and pastoral care.
