About me

Introduction

Clear explanations Experienced subject teacher 10+ years experience

I am a fully qualified teacher with 25 years of experience, including the last 10 years running a successful tuition business as a biology tutor. I am also an experienced examiner. I have a genuine passion for biology and believe in helping students connect with the subject on a deeper level—not just by memorising content, but by truly understanding and engaging with it.
I am committed to delivering high-quality, bespoke tuition tailored to each student’s individual needs. My approach involves identifying each student’s strengths and areas for development so I can support them in both content mastery and exam technique. For exam success, students must not only understand the material but also know how to apply it under pressure. I work closely with my students to ensure both areas are addressed thoroughly and effectively.
As an examiner, I bring a deeper insight into what exam boards expect. I use this to guide my students in refining their answers, improving structure, and avoiding common pitfalls. I often incorporate real exam questions into lessons and provide detailed feedback so students know exactly how to improve. This clarity builds confidence and helps them perform to their full potential.
A great example of this is Aimee. When she first started working with me, she was passionate about becoming a physiotherapist but struggled with GCSE Biology and lacked confidence. Through consistent support and encouragement, she passed her GCSE. We continued working together at A-level, where her interest in biology grew stronger. Over those two years, she truly thrived and eventually went on to study physiotherapy at university, graduating with a first-class honours degree. Her success is a clear example of what can be achieved with the right guidance and belief.
Many of my students go on to achieve grades above their predicted levels, gaining places on highly competitive university courses such as medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, and more. I specialise in building both subject knowledge and academic confidence, helping each learner reach their full potential.
In addition to student support, I prioritise communication with parents. I provide regular progress updates and also share informal messages to celebrate small wins or improvements. This ensures everyone feels involved in the student’s journey and reinforces motivation and accountability.
With extensive experience, a personalised approach, and a strong track record of results, I take pride in helping students succeed—not just in exams, but in their future academic and career paths.
