As a graduate in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford, I am deeply passionate about education and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I have spent the past year working at an international school in South Korea, where I delivered lessons, produced high-quality resources, and offered bespoke 1-1 sessions within the Politics and Economics departments. I offer tutoring and consultation for the IB Diploma, A Levels, GCSEs and IGCSEs. Additionally, I offer tailored Personal Statement and University Guidance sessions. Having undergone the rigorous Oxbridge application process myself, I am equipped to provide detailed university interview preparation and advice sessions to candidates. My combined experience from the University of Oxford and working at an international school has made me familiar with both UK and USA university systems, leaving me well-positioned to advise on each.
My teaching style is heavily influenced by my experience at the University of Oxford. I enjoy using the Socratic method of learning which is used at Oxford. This is a student focused method of learning; we like to discuss the subject, asking questions and helping them to discover answers rather than simply supplying solutions. In addition, I read and annotate submitted essays or personal statements, and set and mark economics problems to demonstrate concepts. It is my belief that this has numerous benefits. A student’s understanding of a subject is greatly enhanced through discussion, and answers are stronger in a student’s memory when they are answers that the student has discovered themself. For A Levels and IB this is particularly important, since top grades require a broader set of subject knowledge and engagement rather than simply being able to recite core information. Further to this, the Oxford method of education is a more interesting way to engage with material, and I find that students generally enjoy this method more than other forms of teaching. It is important to me that through my tutoring, students develop their subject passion. Developing one’s ability to critically engage with course content is key to success at Sixth Form, university and beyond in the world of work. I therefore believe that the Oxford mixture of discussion and marked work is the most successful formula for tutoring to follow.
