I am a highly experienced and passionate Classics teacher with over a decade of teaching Latin, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient History from Common Entrance to A Level. I hold a DPhil in Classical Archaeology from the University of Oxford and Qualified Teacher Status in Latin and Classics from King’s College London. I am also a qualified OCR examiner for Classical Civilisation at both GCSE and A Level, which provides valuable insight into exam technique, marking criteria, and how to help students reach the highest grades.
My teaching approach is structured, dynamic, and highly personalised. I adapt each lesson to suit the needs, pace, and goals of the individual learner, whether they are preparing for 11+, 13+, Common Entrance, or working towards top marks in their A Levels. I have taught a wide range of learners from UK schools and international backgrounds, including home-educated students and those preparing for the CAT (Classics Admissions Test) and Oxbridge entry.
I make ancient languages and culture come alive through an integrated approach that blends grammatical rigour, contextual knowledge, and literary analysis. I also use bilingual strategies to support students, especially those studying Latin and Italian, and regularly create interactive resources to support online learning. My lessons are known for being intellectually stimulating but also supportive and encouraging.
A number of my students have achieved outstanding results. For example, one A Level Classical Civilisation student who began with a predicted grade C achieved an A* and secured a place at a top Russell Group university. Another student, initially struggling with Latin grammar and syntax, achieved a grade 9 in just one academic year. I have helped students secure scholarships to top schools like Eton, Westminster, and St Paul’s, and many of my students have successfully applied to Oxford and Cambridge.
As a qualified examiner, I bring a deep understanding of assessment objectives to every lesson. I know what exam boards are looking for and how to guide students in developing concise, analytical answers that meet top-band criteria. I also supervise students undertaking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), encouraging independent thinking, research skills, and academic writing.
Beyond the classroom, I organise museum visits and cultural enrichment activities, including bespoke tours of archaeological sites in Italy.
