About me

Introduction

Experienced with international students Interactive teaching style

With ten years of experience as a high school physics teacher and more than thirty years immersed in the world of physics as a student, researcher, and mentor, I am eager to bring my passion for science and education to a forward-thinking institution. My diverse background, shaped by international teaching experiences in Canada, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and China, has cultivated a unique perspective and teaching style that aligns with a school's commitment to fostering curiosity and critical thinking in its students.

These global experiences have taught me to adapt my pedagogy to better support diverse learners, integrating cross-curricular themes into my lessons to create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued. By connecting physics to real-world scenarios and other academic disciplines, I encourage students to see beyond the classroom and apply their knowledge creatively. One of my most rewarding initiatives was spearheading a year-long, project-based learning program where students engaged in research, experimentation, and presentations, developing critical communication and problem-solving skills. This framework, adapted from my time as a co-coordinator of the Freshman Engineering Design course at KAIST University, empowered students to take ownership of their learning. More recently, I mentored a student on a plasma confinement project, guiding him through theoretical, experimental, and computational research, culminating in a presentation at an international physics conference in Singapore.

I understand the challenges students face as they transition from A-level studies to university, and I strive to prepare them for this shift by delivering lessons that emphasize both the elegance and rigour of physics. I believe that exposing students to the interconnectedness of physics with other fields of study, as well as its relevance to the natural world and society at large, helps cultivate a genuine passion for the subject.

Beyond the classroom, I am passionate about sharing my hobbies and interests, which I believe can further enrich the student experience. As an avid scuba diver with six certifications, I have a deep appreciation for the natural world, which I capture through video editing using footage from drones and underwater cameras. My enthusiasm for technology extends to maintaining my own Linux machines since the mid-90s, a skill I am eager to share with budding scientists to encourage their familiarity with modern computing tools. Additionally, I enjoy exploring culinary arts, particularly techniques from diverse ethnic cuisines, and would love to bring this passion to the school community through hands-on cooking experiences with students and staff. While I also play guitar, I admit I could use a bit more practice!

I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to a school that values innovation, inclusivity, and a global perspective. I am confident that my unique blend of professional experience, teaching philosophy, and personal interests will support the school's mission of developing well-rounded, curious, and engaged students ready for future challenges.
