I am a passionate discourse analyst and language scholar, with fifteen years’ experience of teaching, researching, and supervising in the fields of Communication, Applied Linguistics, and Language Education. I hold an MA in Language and Communication Research and a PhD in Sociolinguistics from Cardiff University. I also completed a combined BA and MA degree in English Philology and TESOL at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Poland.
At the start of my career, I taught English language in private and mainstream schools in the UK. I also acted as a Polish Translator and Interpreter in various education, health, and business settings. In addition, for fifteen years I offered private tuition in English and Polish language in Poland, the UK, and France. During my doctoral studies, I completed training in Teaching in Higher Education (awarded Distinction) and became an Associate Fellow of the Advance Higher Education, UK. I taught a range of courses in Applied Linguistics at Cardiff University and Swansea University, for instance: Human Communication, Media Communication, Discourse Analysis, Language of Everyday Life, and Language of the Media. Most recently, I acted as a Dissertation Supervisor for MSc international students undertaking research projects in TESOL, Language Education and Intercultural Communication at the University in Edinburgh. Over three academic years (March 2020–November 2022), I led 30 MSc international students to successful completion of their research projects (90% achieved Grade B or above). The research projects I supervised covered a broad range of topics, e.g.: Student and Teacher Identity, Culture in Language Teaching, Intercultural Awareness, Language Attitudes, Language Ideologies, Multiculturalism, Translanguaging, Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Pragmatics, Teacher Education, Student Motivation, Material Evaluation, Academic Writing, and Translation.
My key research interests are: Intercultural Communication, Media Communication and Food Communication. I am also passionate about discourses related to migration, diversity, sustainability, and tourism.
I specialise in Qualitative Research which employs Discourse Analysis, Multimodal Discourse Analysis, Thematic Analysis, and Content Analysis.
I am happy to assist students with their applications for Master’s and PhD programmes (application forms, research proposals, and cover letters). I can likewise proofread and offer feedback on university assignments and dissertations in the fields of Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Communication, Language Education, and TESOL.
