I’m an incoming Master’s student for MSc Applied Meteorology and Climate at the University of Reading, having just achieved a First Class BA Geography degree at the University of Oxford. My interests lie in Climate Science and my dissertation in this area achieved a mark of 71. As part of my degree, I have also studied a broad range of physical and human geography topics. I have been tutoring for over two and a half years and approach my teaching with a flexible and focused style. While I work within a structure of recap material, interactive activities and focused exam practice, I have tutored a wide range of students of many different abilities. This has allowed me to develop many lesson materials and importantly be able to adapt my teaching to tailor it to the specific student’s needs. I have extensive experience in tutoring Geography, as well as Biology and Maths at GCSE, and this has often involved supporting students with applying content to exam questions, meaning I have a nuanced and thorough understanding of how to improve answers, structure and essay content. My degree in the diverse subject matter of Geography has provided me with the opportunity to further develop mathematical and qualitative skills that support this teaching. Many of the students I have worked with, which have included online and teaching in person, have reported higher grades in their subject and increased enjoyment from the learning process. Lessons I offer centre upon what the student needs most support with and a range of possible methods of teaching and discussion to facilitate learning outcomes for the student. My experience of tutoring has meant I have close attention to detail with the different exam boards and the required content and exam structures for those exam boards. I have conducted mock interviews and advice sessions on University Geography admissions, and have supported applicants in person at my former school. My aim from tutoring is that the student strengthens their ability in the subject at hand and is more confident in tackling it in exam or interview settings. I am also receptive to feedback on approach and can work with students to determine what it is they need support with if they themselves are unsure!
